A few Sunday’s ago, I went on a road trip to Whidbey Island with Savy and Jesse for their engagement session at Fort Casey. The artistic Georgetown couple will be married in June at the iconic Hat ‘n’ Boots. Just a warning this is a very long post!
Our plan was to drive to the Mukilteo-Clinton ferry, which would then be a short trip to Fort Casey. Unfortunately, the Mukilteo dock was closed for repairs, so we drove around and hit Deception Pass on the way. I was glad we did!
It’s my style to go for a walk with my clients and just photograph them doing what they would be doing if I wasn’t there…telling their story. I never imagined that they would run around sliding down stair-rails and climbing up into the bridge!
Next it was back to the car for the remaining trip to Fort Casey. Our state’s forts are fascinating, and I was anticipating lots of great visuals.

The fort has undergone significant restoration since my last visit. Paint really does wonders. It was also busy with families flying kites and kids exploring the gunneries. (Obviously, I frame portraits in a way that they appear to be the only ones there.) The sign in the next series says “Falling Can Be Deadly.” HA.

For the final part of the session Savy wanted to change into another outfit and head to the lighthouse at the park.
Jesse is a man of little frills, so he swapped out his hoodie for a wool coat. The resulting series looks like it’s right out of the 1940s.

We then headed to the ferry to catch a boat home. We didn’t take many photos on the ferry, except for snagging a shot with a rainbow, which is always difficult to capture on “film.”
Thank you, thank you, thank you to Savy and Jesse for being so awesome, this was one of my favorite engagement sessions of all time!

savy - Thank you so much Heather! You made this so much fun, we had a blast hanging out with you all day being our silly selves. The shots are absolutely beautiful.
